Art Share Show
This year in Art Class, our Kindergarten and 5th grade artists did an "Art Share" project. After listening and discussing the book Hooray for Fish, our Kindergarteners created their own pencil drawings of an imaginary fish.
Our 5th graders then surprised the Kindergarteners by adding color and details to the drawings. The Kindergarten/5th Grade "Art Share" was on display outside the
Large Gym for the Kindergarten Holiday Concert.
Our Share Show will be "traveling" to the High School Art Gallery in January so we can
"share" it with the big kids.

A Tribute to Wayne Thiebaud!
Wayne Thiebaud, an American Artist, has always been known for his beautiful (and delicious looking) still life paintings of desserts. Candy, cakes, pies, ice cream and so much more. If it tasted good, he painted it! In every interview with him, he always was so thankful and gracious. So talented and so humble.
A few years ago I wrote to Mr. Thiebaud to tell him how much I admired his work and how much our students enjoyed learning about him. A few weeks later I received a reply!! I was overjoyed and completely star struck!! I told anyone who would listen about how Wayne Thiebaud, a Master Artist, would take the time to send (little old me) a card!! What a THRILL!
Wayne Thiebaud recently passed away on December 25, 2021 at the age of 101.
He will always be an inspiration to both myself and our students for many, many years to come.
Just a few pics of Wayne Thiebaud inspired artwork.

Our Final Farewell!
Hi Everyone!
I hope you are staying healthy and enjoying time with your families.
I wanted to share some added links to my site with you. The library, music, and art departments have been working together to create fun and meaningful activities for you to enjoy at home.
These activities are separated into 2 groups, K-2 and 3-5.
Please try to spend 45 minutes a week on your art activity. It doesn't have to be all at one time. You may spread it out over the week. Please use the time to be creative and relax.
It can be as simple or as detailed as you wish.
If would like to share the artwork you are making at home,
you can send it to me through email,
[email protected] or
post it on FlipGrid.

Decorating CHOPPED Style
This year our Voorheesville Elementary Artists were given the opportunity to decorate their classroom doors.
Each participating class received the same materials.
Materials included cotton, pom-poms, paper, popsicle sticks etc.
Students decorated their classroom door in a seasonal or holiday design using the materials provided.
Teachers could direct discussions and help brainstorm but not help with the actual decoration of the door.

First, Mrs. O'Keefe and I prepared the materials.
Unfortunately, we didn't have baskets like in the show.
So, we improvised and used paper bags.
Thank you Trader Joe's for all those bags!
We watched as the students created.
And watched, and watched....
They were so AMAZING!
Our students used cooperation, communication and most importantly, imagination.
The results were SO MUCH FUN!
Every door looked Amazing. But time came to choose the winners. One for each floor in our school. Everyone was so excited!

Monster Drawings by Voorheesville
Kindergarten and High School Students
Tuesday, May 14th, 2019
Come any time from 5:00pm-6:00pm
Clayton A. Bouton High School Gallery
(Located inside the Middle School Entrance)
Contact Stacey Vitelli at [email protected] with any questions.
In 2013, artist Mica Hendricks purchased a new sketchbook. While drawing in it, her daughter Myla decided she wanted to draw in it too. After hesitating for a bit, Myla reminded her mom that sharing was important and it was Mica who taught her that. Mica gave in and let her daughter draw the body to the illustration she was working on. Mica colored the body and when she was finished, an idea was born. Art Share !!
Mica and Myla made so many shared art pieces that they were able to create a book, Share With Me.
The monster pencil drawings created by our kindergarten students were inspired by the book, I Need My Monster. Not all monsters are bad; some of us created monsters that are happy, sad, angry, or just confused. We used our imaginations to create monsters from different places like space or the ocean. To complete the Art Share, High School students viewed I Need My Monster, a short film; then selected drawings and created inspired spaces for the monsters to live.

What is a Buddy Bench? If a child feels lonely, or has no one to play with, he or she takes a seat on the bench.
Sitting on the bench is a signal to other children to come over and talk or offer to play.

Dear Voorheesville Friends and Family,
I want to take this time to thank everyone for their support of our on-line gallery site, Artsonia. Due to the funds raised through this site I was able to purchase the art materials for the scenery, costumes and props for the 3rd grade play. I am very, very grateful.
Sincerely,
Stacey Vitelli

The Fantastic Seven!
Seven very talented 5th grade artists have been selected to participate in the Empire State Art Show. The show will be featured at the Empire State Plaza in downtown Albany from March 3rd-17th. I am so proud of them!
Amazon Delivery!!!
With every purchase from Artsonia our art department receives 20% of the proceeds. Yesterday I received a package of new art supplies. Our students no longer have to argue for the "good" scissors. Also purchased were mixing cups, markers and snap pins!
Thank you so much for your contributions!!! I am so grateful! |
DOOR DECOR CONTEST
Last year, teachers and students decorated their classroom doors with different themes. We decided to do it again this year. My door (and wall) needed a bit of an explaination. For those of us who watch Doctor WHO you probably get the joke.
Meeting Aurora Robson
Aurora Robson is a multi-media artist known predominantly for her work intercepting the waste stream. Her practice is largely about subjugating negativity and shifting trajectories. In other words, she is an upcycling artist that uses old discarded materials (mostly plastics), and transforms them into beautiful sculptures. I had the honor of meeting her earlier this year at the 11th annual art teacher symposium in New Paltz, NY. What a thrill! She truly is a lovely and talented person. This picture was posted on line. Normally when I attend conferences the only thing that gets into a photo is my elbow or the back of my head. I was so excited to actually see my face this time! See everyone, I have proof. I was really there!!!
